O Brave New World!

I washed my dirty clothes at the laundromat across the street. It took me a while to figure things out because this is the MOST ADVANCED LAUNDRY TECHNOLOGY OF OUR TIME!

The washers were beautiful stainless steel Miele machines with LCD displays, and they were all networked to a central pay station that took bills as well as coins. And you better believe you're going to need bills because the machines were €3,50 each ($4.70)! I spent about five minutes trying to find the coin slot on the soap dispenser before realizing it, too, was connected to the greedy money computer. After some wrangling I got my detergent, which came in the form of two dishwasher-type tablets with zero english instructions. Thankfully, there were some helpful pictograms on the side:

As clear as I can tell, these translate to: 1. Put tablets in washing compartment, 2. Do not break tablets in half! and 3. GET EXCITED BECAUSE YOU ARE DOING SOME LAUNDRY!

Turns out that the washing machines are efficient in that they squeeze out almost all the water from the clothes, so the dryer only takes 20 minutes for the whole load (but still costs €1 per 10 minutes).

In other crazy efficient liberal communist news: The toilet. Has two (2) buttons:

There are two (2) things you can do in a toilet. Turns out, not a coincidence! One button for No. 1, both buttons for No. 2. Good thing they don't have Bennigan's here or they would need to add a third button.
